Methodology
How We Score Tools
We evaluate every tool and service through the lens of a solo consultant. Not feature checklists. Not crowd-sourced votes. Each score reflects an editorial assessment of how well it serves the workflow of an independent professional — from first interaction to daily use.
The 6 Scoring Dimensions
Every tool is scored across these dimensions. Weights reflect what matters most to consultants shipping real work.
- Outcome Fit25%
Does this tool directly help a consultant deliver client outcomes? We prioritize tools that map to real deliverables — proposals, reports, dashboards — over general productivity features.
- Setup Speed20%
How fast can a solo operator go from signup to first useful output? Consultants bill by the hour. Onboarding friction is a real cost.
- Pricing20%
Is the pricing fair for a 1-person or small-team practice? We penalize tools that hide essential features behind enterprise tiers or require annual commitments.
- Integrations15%
Does it connect to the tools consultants already use? We check for native integrations with common workflows (Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, Zapier).
- UX10%
Is the interface clean enough for someone context-switching across 4 client projects? We value clarity and speed over feature density.
- Trust10%
Can you share this tool's output with a client and feel confident? We assess data handling, uptime reputation, and whether the company communicates transparently.
Verdict System
Each tool receives a verdict tag based on its total score out of 100. Verdicts help you quickly assess fit without reading every detail.
Score 85+. The go-to recommendation for its category. If you need this type of tool and don't want to research further, pick this one.
Score 70–84. Excellent tool with minor gaps. Usually a strong alternative to the Default, often with a specific advantage (price, niche feature, UX style).
Score 55–69. Works well for a specific use case or consultant type, but not universal. Read the review to see if it matches your workflow.
Score below 55. Has notable limitations. We include it because it solves a real problem, but you should weigh the tradeoffs carefully.

Transparency
Our scores are editorial assessments by the Curalo team, not crowd-sourced votes or algorithmically generated ratings. We test tools on real consulting workflows and score based on our professional judgment. Some tools on Curalo participate in featured placement programs, but featured status never influences scores or verdicts.
